Applications for our 2025 Fair are now open!
ShortBox Comics Fair is a digital comics fair that takes place annually in October. The fair runs for a month and is an online-only event, meaning anyone from anywhere in the world can apply to exhibit.
What makes the fair unique is that we are proud to be a comics-focused platform: showcasing only new digital comics from independent artists around the world. Each participating artist debuts a new, original comic, and all these comics are then released simultaneously via the fair website in October. The month running-length of the fair gives people ample time to browse, buy, and to come back again. The fair has quickly established a reputation as truly innovative: people have a real, exciting reason to mark it in their calendar knowing all the comics listed will be never-before-seen/released works, and a space to discover a myriad range of artists both new and established. We want the event to both be a creative instigating factor for artists and, of course, to create a special experience for comics readers as well!
How it works:
All participating exhibitors are required to 'table' with one new, debuting comic. Details as follows:
Comics must be new work: not published elsewhere previously, whether digitally or in print
Comics must be a minimum of 16 pages (comic pages, i.e. not including covers, etc) in length
All rights to the comic are fully owned by the creator
Comics must be created by a single author: no writer/artist teams
No AI comics, covers, or anything AI at all
There are NO upfront/exhibiting fees. Instead, the fair takes 9% of final sales: we get paid if you get paid. Each artist receives a breakdown of sales and fees along with payment at the end of the fair
Once the fair is over, artists are completely free to do whatever they wish with their comic; for the duration of the fair, the comic should be available via the fair only
Participating exhibitors must have a Paypal account or a valid bank account connected to their name
Deadline for applications is November 22nd 2024 (8pm UK time).
Applicants will receive further information on creating/submitting their comic, deadlines, layout, set-up, etc., upon acceptance. A guideline date for submission of a final, completed comic is 1st August 2025.
